Selling music of any type is, alongside the international
drug trade and third world debt, one of the world’s biggest problems. It doesn’t
matter how humorous or memorable a tune may be, it’s effect will
be wasted if the listener is not interested and wants to do something
else.
Because there are many different distractions in
today’s world – things
like Food Lovers Fairs or appeals for Charities – identifying the
correct marketing strategy for a record release is possibly the most
difficult task for a human being of average intelligence can undertake.
Radio djs and TV executives have been known to
say things like: “I
need to be able to whistle this song before you’ve even played
it to me”.
To which we normally reply: “And you, my friend, are a major part
of the problem, aren’t you?”
Ensuring that JSH Records remains at the cutting edge of marketing is the
job of The Marketing Department.
